Which musical should you take your children to see in London? London is packed full of musicals which change every year. However, some shows aren't suitable for children due to their themes or length. How do you choose the best show in London to see as a family?

The West End, London's theatre district, features several family musicals which appeal to children and parents alike! They often have several layers to them, allowing adults to find depth while children are caught up in the story and songs. However, they're not childish or immature. For example, the musical Matilda, tells the story of a young heroine who loves to read but is faced with the realities of the adult world with challenges at school and people who are quick to judge. These shows combine fun and imagination with teaching family values, morals and open-mindedness.

The best musicals to see in London as a family are often based on children's books or films. Wicked is an adaptation of the much loved young adult novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, while Mary Poppins and The Lion King are based on Disney films with the same titles. For children, musicals are often the perfect show as they're used to children's films which are peppered with lyrical songs, especially in Disney films. The dancing doesn't put them off for the same reasons. So don't be afraid that they'll be bored by the theatre, you may find the opposite: they may enjoy it so much that they ask to go back!

Some musicals are more suitable for children over eight such as Wicked, but other shows in this list can appeal and be understood by almost all ages. All that's left to say is enjoy the show!
