What's Mamma Mia! about?

The musical Mamma Mia! was first performed in 1999 in London, before being duplicated in a theatre on Broadway (New York) a year later. Since then, several decades have passed and viewers still continue to come in large numbers to sing and dance in front of a romantic, moving and funny story, accompanied by ABBA's famous disco music!

Young Sophie lives on a Greek island with her mother Donna, who raised her alone while running a hotel. The day before her wedding, Sophie brings the three men who Donna had an affair twenty years earlier to the island without telling her mother. One of them is Sophie's father. But who? Sophie's two best friends and Donna's two old friends are also invited to the island for the wedding. The story will unravel in tears and laughter!

Why should you see Mamma Mia!?

Using musical jargon, Mamma Mia! is a jukebox musical, a term which clearly explains its aim: to draw the viewer in using something they're used to. Mamma Mia! uses ABBA's hits in this way.

The good mood that comes from the libretto and the effective staging of Phyllida Lloyd have done the rest: this musical is still on stage in ten cities around the world and has already been seen by more than 65 million viewers. The 2008 film based on the musical broke the box office record previously held by Titanic.

In short, Mamma Mia! is the perfect musical for an evening in London as a couple, with friends, but also as a family with teenagers. Are you ready to meet the dancing queens?

We hebben een heerlijke avond bij de musical Mamma Mia gehad. Leuk oud theater in West End
Nadeel is het slecht kunnen vinden van de toiletten. De bordjes naar deze toiletten zouden beter gesitueerd kunnen worden.
Maar ondanks dat blijft de show geweldig. Enthousiast publiek. Dus een leuke avond.

Fabulous show and Donna stood out by far! Loved the finale great audience participation. The other scene that was fabulous was the guys going to take sky, the dancing and flippers on stage was so well done and choreographed. This is the second time seeing that show, this time I brought my 3 daughters and we have made amazing memories

Pulsating, vibrant, colourful. The production was excellent, the singing was breathtaking, the atmosphere electric. The cast, displayed a passion for the music which came over in their performances. The scene changes were seem less and never detracted from the overall choreography. We so enjoyed it.

Fabulous performance and production by all!! Mazz Murray’s performance as Donna was incredible - her voice was powerful and emotionally charged. Meg Hateley’s Sophie was perfect. Also Jake Bailey’s Pepper! They were all amazing, no-one disappointed. Made us laugh and cry in equal measure. Loved it! Novello theatre is beautiful too.

The best feel-good factor show out there! With spine-tingling vocal performances throughout the cast, high energy routines and songs that the whole family can sing along with, I could not fault a single aspect of Mamma Mia. A real highlight was the encore where the entire audience were up singing and dancing along with the cast - we left on such a high. This is my second time seeing the production and I can't wait to go again!

Brilliant show. Travelled down from Inverness to see it was not left disappointed. Theatre staff were all friendly and efficient. Prices were very reasonable. 15 minute break to get more refreshments was just the perfect length of time as separate bars for each seating area so wasn’t to busy. The show was like the movie the main character has a brilliant voice such a talent

The show was amazing! We came for my partners 30th and she was blown away by the performance. She was in tears at times during the show as the show was so moving and made her really happy hearing such great performers singing some of her favourite songs that she use to share with her Nan who has dementia now so brought back some really happy memories

A very good show where you don't get bored. Very rhythmic, without dead time. Music that brings back fond memories. Actors who play their roles wonderfully well and one wonders how they manage to sing and move with so much ease. Subtle sets which allow us to focus on the action.

A very pleasant and good show. A clever set, very varied and colourful costumes, high quality actors/singers who share their joy of acting and singing. An enthusiastic audience of all ages but lots of young people. It's great that they end with all main tunes to allow the audience to sing along.
