What's High School Musical about?
High School Musical is the stage adaptation of the iconic Disney Channel film of the same name.
Troy Bolton meets Gabriella Montez during the Christmas holidays, where the two high school students discover a shared passion for singing. When Troy returns to school, he learns that Gabriella has transferred to his high school and has signed up for auditions for the school musical. He decides to try his luck as well.
However, his friends are surprised by this decision: Troy is the captain of the basketball team and a popular student - he has no business socialising with the "theatre crowd". To make matters worse, Sharpay and Ryan Evans, determined to land the lead roles, set out to prevent Troy and Gabriella from taking part in the show.
Why should you see High School Musical?
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film's release, the High School Musical stage production is returning to the British capital. For the occasion, London’s Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre is presenting a brand-new production, which premiered at The Lowry in Salford in the summer of 2026.
High School Musical features hit songs from the original film, such as Start of Something New, Stick to the Status Quo and Breaking Free - while also incorporating new tracks written specifically for the stage production. The book is by David Simpatico, with direction by William Whelton and Joseph Houston and choreography by Aaron Renfree.
