What's Singin' in the rain about?

The musical Singin' in the Rain, which premiered at the London Palladium in 1983, is finally returning to the London stage!

The show is based on the iconic 1952 film. Set in 1927 Hollywood, the story follows Don Lockwood and his partner Lina Lamont, stars of the silent screen. When The Jazz Singer - cinema's first "talkie" - is released, their studio decides to shoot the next "Lockwood and Lamont" picture using this new technology. However, Lina Lamont's voice is, to put it mildly... unpleasant. Cosmo, Don Lockwood's creative partner, suggests having her dubbed by Kathy Selden, a young dancer with whom Don has fallen in love. A jealous Lina Lamont does not take kindly to this relationship!

Why should you see Singin' in the rain?

Singin' in the Rain is a tribute to the golden age of Hollywood cinema. The film is so iconic that it is surprising it took so long for the stage version of the musical to be created! The show's highlight is, of course, the dance scene in the rain, which presents a genuine technical challenge at every performance.

The music is by Nacio Herb Brown, the lyrics are by Arthur Freed, and the book is by Adolph Green and Betty Comden.

This musical is a true classic, an absolute must-see in London!
