What's Newsies about?

The musical Newsies comes to the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre, London, in a new, completely immersive experience!

Newsies fictionalises the newsboy strikes which took place in New York in 1899. The show focuses on Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a small "newsies" group, teenagers who make a living out of selling newspapers.

When the press moguls decided to cut newsies' salaries, Jack and his group launch an attack. Gathering together sellers from different New York neighbourhoods, he organises a strike to protect their meagre livelihood!

Why should you see Newsies?

The musical Newsies is adapted from the Disney film of the same name starring Christian Bale (American Psycho, the The Dark Knight trilogy) in the title role.

Newsies was on stage on Broadway (New York) for two years between 2012 and 2014, where it was nominated in 8 Tony Award categories and won the Tony Award for Best Song and Best Choregraphy.

The show features songs from the film but includes new songs written by the film's composer, Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Hercules, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act) and original lyricist Jack Feldman. The libretto is by Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Kinky Boots). Among the hits are: Carrying the Banner, Seize the Day, King of New York and Sante Fe.

On stage for the first time in London, Newsies has spectacular and immersive staging. It's the perfect show to see with teenagers!
