What's Moulin Rouge! The Musical about?

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is one of the most spectacular musicals in London. Based on the successful Baz Luhrmann film, it focuses on a tragic love story between a young, penniless poet (Christian) and a famous dancer at the Moulin Rouge (Satine). The action unfolds in Montmartre at the start of the 20th century.

As in the film, this juke box musical features some of the biggest hits from the last fifty years. Some songs are sung in their entirerity while others are part of a mash up or medley. Among these hits, we spotted: Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend, Firework, Sympathy For The Devil and Bad Romance. The musical book is written by famous scriptwriter John Logan (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Skyfall, Spectre, Gladiator).

It was not the first time I went to a musical in London, but I was surprised by the way the room looked, by the lights and all the design, the atmosphere.

This musical is Amazing. I loved the actors, the music, the way they danced, it is something different than in other musicals i saw before.
I would recommend it to everyone, even to those not so in love with musicals.

Though the characters are energetic the show comes off as tired and lacking vitality.
We only stayed for the first half of the show due to the lackluster performance.
The show needs at least one dazzling performer to razzamatazz the audience.
There was a Rolling Stone song though which was pretty good.
The best part for me was before the show when the French music played. That along with the flashy red were priceless.

Extraordinary performance! I don’t have words to describe what we saw.

I went on the 1st of February with my best man, as he was only for a few days in London and we think that the Moulin Rouge should be fine for our evening. But it was more and more than what we expected to see.

Well done guys! You are amazing!

Magnificent staging!!! We loved it!!! A must-see!!! Everything was perfect: dream sets and well chosen music associated with the usual Moulin Rouge pieces. The performers have magnificent voices that take us soaring with them in this show full of colours and rhythms. Cancan dancing is still alive and well and the duets and choreographies that created such suspense! It had everything. Thank you for such a thrilling night!!!
