What's High Society about?
High Society is the musical adaptation of the 1956 film of the same name, which was itself based on a play called The Philadelphia Story.
The action takes place in the high society of Newport, in the state of Rhode Island. Tracy Lord, a young woman from a wealthy, perfectionist and demanding family, is preparing to remarry a respectable man. But the arrival of her ex-husband C.K. Dexter Haven as well as that of a journalist and a photographer who came to cover the wedding will upset his project.

The musical High Society was premiered in 1997 at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. A sign of its success, this new production at the Barbican is the second revival of the show in London.
The libretto is signed Arthur Kopit (Nine) and the music is by the legendary composer Cole Porter (Anything Goes, Kiss Me Kate). This show is a unique opportunity to (re)discover hits like True Love, Who Wants to Be a Millionnaire? and Well, Did You Evah! performed by a live orchestra.
