What's Hamilton about?

After the success of his first musical In the Heights, Lin-Manuel Miranda chose to tell the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the United States, for his next musical. The artistic team was inspired by the biography written by historian Ron Chernow which they used to create a show considered to be ground breaking by critics.

Over two and a half hours, the musical traces the life of this influential political figure: from his orphan childhood in the Caribbean to his political rise through his military involvement in the American Revolution. Hamilton will go on to become Secretary of the Treasury (the equivalent of our Chancellor of Exchequer) to President Washington. Duels, affairs, betrayals, rivalries... all the ingredients to make Hamilton a truly epic musical!

Why should you see Hamilton?

After several months of work following the closure of the musical Billy Elliot, the Victoria Palace Theatre in London became home to Hamilton. A real phenomenon in the United States, Hamilton: An American Musical was first performed at the Public Theater in New York in February 2015, before being moved to the Richard Rodgers Theatre in August 2015, where it has a full house every night.

Sixteen 2016 Tony Award nominations and eleven awards, a Grammy Award for "Best Musical Album" and a Pulitzer Prize for the show's libretto... Hamilton has already gone down in history. With compositions inspired by rap, hip-hop, r ‘n’ b and gospel music, Lin-Manuel Miranda has achieved a real tour de force and has brilliantly imposed a brand new, revolutionary style on the world of musicals.

Hamilton is a perfect show to see with friends, as its somewhere between history and entertainment. Its ultra-fluid staging is an example for directors all over the world. Get your tickets!

Hamilton was a very good show, giving us an insight into American history with a clever script.
Great cast and wonderful music. A clever script and I'm sure you will enjoy the show.
Great dance moves and synchronicity by clever, skilled actors. They are all good dancers.
The script was mostly rapping rather than speaking. So something different to watch and listen to.

Absolutely brilliant. Mixed cast and set changes were incredibly smooth. The transitions through each song and scene were also exceptional. Would be great to see some of the touring cast mixed in with the west end cast, that would make the show a once in a lifetime experience getting to see powerful actors and actresses.

Been a huge Hamilton fan for a while and finally got a chance to see it. Even though I'm used to the original Broadway cast I absolutely loved all the Hamilton actors on West End. Great acting and singing. I especially loved Alex Sawyer, Simon Anthony Rhoden and Joel Montague, but everyone was amazing and I can't wait to see it again in the future.

Hamilton was amazing. It was my daughter's Christmas present. She had no clue we were going. It was everything and more to watch it with her. It brought tears of joy to her eyes. Her favorite part was all of it but the King was hilarious. Being from the states and watchING it in London was unique.

We took our son to see this before he leaves for army college. We wanted to make memories and he absolutely loves the music. It was a great surprise for him and the cast were phenomenal. Thank you for helping us make these memories before he leaves for the army. The whole show from start to finish was nothing short of amazing.

Innovative modern musical hosted inside a beautiful theatre superbly run. The show itself was great although the vocal performances of the main characters are hit and miss. I found that the lead actor was often powered out by other more forceful vocalists. It’s still worth seeing and the audience still gave the cast a standing ovation.

Fantastic show! Coming from the United States we were unsure what to expect; would we be disappointed in the quality of the production? We were not disappointed! The entire production was top notch. We were amazed that we were finally able to see this production live for a fraction of the cost in the Untied States.

This is our granddaughter's favorite show and was the highlight of our trip to London and Paris.

Best musical we’ve ever been to! Outstanding!! The production was hugely professional and the singing quality across the cast could not have been better. This really felt like one of those shows that didn’t just live up to the hype surrounding it, but completely surpassed it. The venue was amazing and the staff were incredibly helpful, polite and patient. Perfect venue and show combination. Can’t recommend enough.

The only show I've been to twice. The only show I've been to when there were no discounted tickets available; what's that say about me? We took our son to celebrate his birthday, visiting from his posting with the UN in Sudan and now Sri Lanka. It was even better the second time - if that's possible; the first being shortly after it opened a few years back. Hamilton grabs you from the moment it opens. It's spoken word, rhyming lyrics are almost mesmerising, interspersed with powerful song and a gripping storyline with a great sense moral yet not the least moralising or preachy.

Brilliant from start to finish. The music is so clever, complex rhythms given in a plethora of rap genres with cheeky references to well known songs. The harmonies were incredible and the delivery was seamless and utterly professional. Something I would watch again. We were also upgraded to a box as my son is too tall for the regular seats!

Spectacular, amazing, the whole crew was TOP. Music, sound, atmosphere….I went to the one in NY many years ago, but this one was even better. I could see it every day for a month. It’s like reading a good book or watching a great movie over and over. I wish I could live in London just to be closer to this FANTASTIC show.

I took my friend who is a girl with me and left with a girlfriend. We had an amazing time. Utterly blown away and the 3rd time I had been. Standing ovation as per the times I’d been before. The passion carried through each actor on stage was completely hypnotising. 5 Damn stars every time. Well done guys and thank you for being so accommodating! Hope to be back soon .

I am a Hamilton fan since tow years ago. For the show in London, I am super excited and a bit nervous. But the whole show is great!! When the first song plays, I can’t help crying. The actor and actresses for Jefferson, Peggy and Eliza really impressed me a lot! My boyfriend, who as someone who saw a musical for the first time, kept weeping when Eliza sang Burn. Though it is really pity for Angelica‘ voice problem. In the end, I really thankful for all members of the cast bringing us the excellent experience!

The look is incredible, and the staging delicately highlights the artists and their performances. Despite a huge score, the cast perform it with talent and generosity. Although I was afraid of not liking it, I fell in love with Lin Manuel Miranda's compositions. An absolute joy! Thanks

I absolutely loved it. I may be a bit biased since I have loved Hamilton since it’s debut and I sang along to all the songs, but the cast (16/02/23) was amazing and the closest thing (personally speaking) to the original cast in terms of execution and finesse. I must see it another 4 times at least.

The show was fantastic!!!! My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed all the performers but we were particularly impressed by the actors who played Lafayette/Jefferson and King George. The theatre was beautiful and conveniently located across from Victoria Station. It was a better experience than the one I saw on Broadway a year ago!
