What's Groundhog Day about?

The musical adaptation of the cult film Groundhog Day is finally returning to London!

Phil Connors is a cynical and selfish man who works as a weather presenter for Pittsburgh TV. While in the small town of Punxsutawney in Pennsylvania to cover the local Groundhog Day event, he becomes trapped in a time loop. Doomed to relive the same day again and again, our disillusioned hero will discover love and redemption.

Why should you see Groundhog Day?

The musical Groundhog Day is based on the eponymous 1993 film starring Bill Murray. The film, which grossed nearly 105 million dollars at the time, introduced the general public to the fantasy comedy genre. It's considered one of the biggest films of the 90s.

The songs for the musical adaptation were written by Tim Minchin, famous for writing the musical for the Matilda musical. The libretto is by Danny Rubin, and it’s directed by Matthew Warchus (Follies, Matilda, Ghost). Groundhog Day premiered in London in 2016 and won two Olivier Awards including Best Musical. In 2017, the show went to New York where it was nominated for seven Tony Awards.

This modern fairy tale cleverly mixes humour and more philosophical messages. Don't miss this adaptation of one of the most iconic films from the 90s!
