What's Crazy For You about?

Crazy For You, a musical by George and Ira Gershwin, returns to London 30 years after its creation! Susan Stroman, who choreographed the first production in 1992, is directing and choreographing this London revival. At the time, her work was awarded a Tony in New York and a Olivier Award in London.

The musical Crazy For You tells a love story where opposites attract. Bobby Child is swithering between his dreams of stardom in the entertainment world and taking over the family bank in New York. At his mother's request, he goes to the small mining town of Deadrock to foreclose a mortgage, he can’t begin to imagine that he'll find the love of his life at first sight.

Why should you see Crazy For You?

Crazy For You is a jukebox musical with songs from the Gershwin brothers. The show takes 6 songs from their musical Girl Crazy (1930) but also uses songs from other musicals. Hit songs featured in Crazy For You, include They Can't Take That Away from Me, Embraceable You, I Got Rhythm and Someone To Watch Over Me. The score is by Ken Ludwig.

The show was created in 1992 in New York where it won 3 Tony Awards including Best Musical. A year later, it crossed the Atlantic and raised the curtain in London where it won 3 Olivier Awards again including Best Musical. The success was such that a revival was released in London in 2011 and was awarded an Olivier for Best Revival.

In the current production at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, the title roles of Polly and Bobby are played by Carly Anderson (Wicked) and Charlie Stemp (Mary Poppins, Hello, Dolly!, Half a Sixpence), two excellent British actors.

With amusing lyrics and entertaining melodies, you'll fall in love with Crazy For You. This production is a party with "with ingenious, sparkling choreography from Susan Stroman that sends you out on a high" (Financial Times).

Breathtaking!!! We're transported to the 1930s. The actors' performances are outstanding and the sets are tastefully chosen. You really like each character. This is the musical of the year, go and see it. I also loved Charlie Stemp's performance.

Everything about this incredible musical is spectacular: the actors, orchestra, set, costumes, sound effects, etc! The story and lyrics are full of humour and legal misunderstandings are among the best. The staging is full of discoveries and bright ideas!
